ChungKing Express is a Hong Kong drama film in 1994, written and directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung and Faye Wong. The film consists of two stories told in sequence, pairing Takeshi Kaneshiro and Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung and Faye Wong. The first story was Taiwan-born cop Qiwu is dumped by girlfriend on April 1. He choose to wait until the month of May. Meanwhile, a woman in a blonde wig tries to survive in drug underworld after smuggling operation goes sour. Another story is another police officer also dealing with breakup, Faye secretly falls for him. She uses the keys leave by the girlfriend and repeatedly enter the man’s apartment to clean and redecorate.

In the film, you can see the characteristic and style of Hong Kong. National cinemas in Asia have a rich and varied history spanning several decades. They are also sources of strong cross-cultural influences in countries. In chinese cinama, there are different dialects spoken, but the most successful is Cantonese. Wong Kar-Wai’s film concerns about politics, lifestyle and issues related to contemporary Hong Kong society.

In the beginning of the film, Qiwu is chasing a suspect. The camera movement is shaky and messy, even though, we still can see the environment.

After that, is a woman wearing blonde wig and sun glasses, survive in the drug underworld. In most of the Hong Kong film, they are more to action movie between the police and underworld. It reflects the drugs dealing can happen at anywhere in Hong Kong, even a remarkable or crowds place.

Then, after several things happen, Qiwu and blonde woman met in a bar. Two different world individuals met in a leisure place.

Another story about Faye and Tony. Whenever Faye is working at the snack bar, she always play the radio in a very high volume. The song reflects the era at that time. Another scene it shows Tony and his girlfriend are “having fun” in his place, the room is not big. After Faye gets the key, she goes to Tony’s place and do cleaning. Director shows the outside of the place, it is narrow. Hong Kong have intensive population, but Hong Kong is too small to build terraced house. The buildings in Hong Kong are tall and narrow.

Actually, Wong Kar-Wai’s films are so deep. By the way, he shows the culture and lifestyle of Hong Kong in his films. Sometimes, he always hides the politics issues in the films.
